One of the world’s largest piano manufacturers…
Kawai pianos are crafted with tremendous skill and care, with the experience of almost a century of piano building.
Koichi Kawai – first person to design and build a piano action in Japan – founded the Kawai Musical Instrument Research Laboratory in 1927, having already worked in the piano industry for some years. Koichi’s fundamental principles were centred around quality, music appreciation and the quest for excellence. These basic principles remain central to Kawai to this day.
After Koichi Kawai’s death in 1955, Shigeru Kawai became company president and was determined to remain true to his father’s ideals. He expanded production facilities and established a number of organizations to promote the value of music.
The business is run today by Hirotaka Kawai, employing over 5000 people and producing pianos of consistently high quality. The tonal qualities, sensitive action response and attractive cabinets make these pianos an excellent choice for all pianists. They are chosen by many music teachers, schools and colleges.
