Yamaha Pianos

Yamaha U1
In recent years fairly large numbers of secondhand pianos have been imported from Japan – notably the Yamaha U1 and U3 uprights, various models of Yamaha grand, as well as Kawai pianos which are generally of a similar quality. These often represent very good value and have rightly proved popular. Generally they are well built pianos with good sound and responsive actions and many piano teachers recommend them. Naturally the quality and condition will vary from one to another so we strongly recommend that you play and listen to a piano before buying.

A good alternative to these are the Wendl & Lung (now branded Feurich) pianos. The 122 upright is only slightly more expensive than a 1970's or 80's Yamaha U1 but their quality of design and build is very impressive. The tone is rich and subtle and the action smooth. These pianos are designed and built by the Austrian company, the actual manufacturing is done in China under close supervision of the European technicians.
